Movies.ie Interview

Movies.ie have posted their exclusive Q&A with Matt. Make sure to visit the site to read the full interview!

Furry Vengeance could be described as Home Alone crossed with Over The Hedge. Would you agree?
Yeah, a lot of people have said that it's kind of like a live action version of Over The Hedge. I think it's a little different - there is definitely a lot more live action and the message for this film is very different.

What drew you to this animal packed movie?
There are three things that really drew me to the movie. The director, Roger Kumble, I have been a huge fan of ever since I saw Cruel Intentions and Just friends. I loved Roger's work. The amazing cast - Brendan Fraser and Brooke Sheilds and Ken Jeong are three people who I idolise and I have really watched their careers. The third thing would have to be the environmental message. It's great we can put a message like this in a kids movie, where we are teaching the younger generation what is really going on and what rally happens when all these forests get taken down for shopping malls and neighbourhood when there are other things living there.

TWIST Magazine Interview

TWIST Magazine posted their exclusive interview with Matt online yesterday. Make sure to visit the site to read the full interview!

TWIST: Your character is like the new kid, so have you ever gone through something like that?
Matt: I have, especially with my move out to L.A. being a small town kid from Victoria, Texas. Getting dumped off in Los Angeles was a pretty big change. I think Tyler had it a little bit easier than I did. He got a girlfriend his first week (in a new town). It took me about 6 months.

TWIST: OK, let's keep talking about dating! What's the biggest grand gesture you've done for a girl?
Matt: I was dating a girl while filming High School Musical 3, so I flew back to LA and surprised her for a weekend. I hung out with her the whole weekend and flew right back to set. She had come up and visited the set the week before, and we got to be really good friends and just really hit it off and started dating pretty quickly. I was texting her like, 'Oh, is this day ever going to end?!' and, 'Hold on, I have to go film this scene, it's probably going to be a 4-hour scene'. And basically, my next response was 'Open your front door!'

"TIME for Kids" Interview

Head over to Time For Kids to check out their exclusive interview with Matt.

TFK: There's a green message to the movie. Can you explain?

Respect what's around you. Many animals are becoming extinct and others you can only see in zoos because humans have destroyed their land. The movie reminds us that we need to respect our surroundings. We're not the only ones living in this world.

TFK: Were there real animals on set and did you get to work with them?

There were real animals on set. I didn't get to work with them as much as Brendan did, mainly because he was being "attacked" by them. [Laughs]

TFK: Kids are turning out to be the true crusaders for the environment. Why do you think they're so excited to be involved?

It's one of those things where kids nowadays [are realizing that] their voices can be heard. We're the next generation, and there are certainly things that we can change.

ALLOY Interview

ALLOY also posted an exclusive interview with Matt today. Make sure to head over to the site to check out the full interview!

What do you do to stay green in your own life?
Just your typical things. I don't do a lot of things out and about, which I'm gonna start doing and need to do. But the little things like recycling and turning off all the electricity when you leave, taking less time in the bathroom -- I take really fast showers.

Do you go out of your way to be environmentally friendly?
Sometimes, but not all the time, which I need to do. My friends and I are planning to do a lot of tree planting this summer and hopefully do all that we can to give back.

"Teen Hollywood" Interview

Teen Hollywood posted their exclusive interview with Matt today. Make sure to head over to the site to check out the full interview!

TeenHollywood: You came out to Hollywood at age 16 to be in the biz. How scary was that as a teen?

Matt: It's funny, it's kind of like the same thing my character Tyler in Furry Vengeance went through. I came out (from Texas) at the same age that Tyler has to move, not knowing anyone in California and, literally, I spend a good four months in an apartment with my mom and our little dog just taking everything in and doing the tourist things like Hollywood Boulevard and the Kodak Theater tour.

I was going out for like a hundred commercial auditions then acting classes and meeting people. It was a fresh start; knowing no one. You could be whoever you wanted to be. It was cool once I finally met other people who were doing the same thing I wanted to do.

TeenHollywood: Tyler isn't exactly an outdoorsman. Are you? do you hike or camp etc.?

Matt: Totally. Every summer my grandpa and I would go to Garner State Park in Texas. We'd camp out and go tubing down the river, jumping off mountains. My dad was a fishing guide for five years.

J-14 Magazine Interview

J-14 Magazine also posted a recent short Q&A with Matt on their website today. Make sure to head over to the site to check out the full interview!

J-14: Tell us about your love interest in the film.
Matt: Her name is Skyler Samuels. She plays Amber, the local activist. She's trying to get people to not tear out the rainforests. My character really hits it off with her and they're cute.

J-14: What do you do in real life to help save the environment?
Matt: I'm part of Skip1 and it's basically saying skip a morning coffee, skip breakfast, skip lunch, and use that money to donate to the Skip1 organization. It's all done by teens and young adults that are trying to make the world a better place and we're actually going out doing something about it and not just taking money and that's it.

J-14: Eclipse is coming out soon -- are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Matt: Oh. I'm going to go with Team Jacob just because I know Taylor. I've known Taylor for a while and I don't know Robert personally. It's a personal thing.

4TNZ Interview

4TNZ posted a recent short interview with Matt on their website today. Make sure to head over to the site to check out the full interview!

4TNZ: Does anyone ever call you by your HSM nickname: "Rocket Man?"

Matt: It's funny you ask that — it's kind of become like a nickname. [When] my friend Matt Shively [from True Jackson VP] calls me "Rocket Man," it kindo f creeps me out. But when fans do, it's pretty cool and I'll usually sign autographs for the younger crowd with my name followed by "Rocket Man."

4TNZ: Tell us a little bit about Furry Vengeance? You play Brendan Fraser's son, right?

Matt: Yes, I play Tyler Sanders. He's a typical teen who wants nothing to do with his parents and just wants to listen to music and be on the computer all day.

4TNZ: Was it hard working with CGI animals?

Matt: I grew up in Texas where I was out in nature a lot. I loved going camping so I've always had a big appreciation for nature. And we used like 50/50 CGI animals and real animals. Sadly, Tyler didn't have too much interaction with the animals.
