J-14 Exclusive Q&A with Matt Prokop
April 23rd, 2010

High School Musical 3 star Matt Prokop is starring in the new flick Furry Vengeance, out April 30. He dished to J-14 about the working on the film, tips to save the environment, and his good friend Taylor Lautner.

J-14: Tell us about your character Tyler.
Matt: Tyler is a 15-year-old very, very, very sarcastic kid. He's constantly looking for a way to just be extremely sarcastic to his father, Dan (played by Brendan Fraser), and he was such a fun character to play.

J-14: The movie has some big name people, were you star struck?
Matt: You know what? It's funny -- I was. I was talking to my roommate, Sterling [Knight from Sonny With a Chance] and I was like, "Dude, this is weird. These are people that I grew up watching." Not to sound cheesy, but Brendan Fraser is like one of my favorite actors -- like I love his work from Encino Man to the Air I Breathe and The Mummy. All those movie I watched growing up helped me decide what I wanted to do. Brooke [Shields] is a sweetheart. We went out to lunch just me and her and walked through Boston for like three hours and just talked. I really felt like these people could care less about who they are and they just want to talk and know people and have real conversation.

J-14: Tell us about your love interest in the film.
Matt: Her name is Skyler Samuels. She plays Amber, the local activist. She's trying to get people to not tear out the rainforests. My character really hits it off with her and they're cute.

J-14: What do you do in real life to help save the environment?
Matt: I'm part of Skip1 and it's basically saying skip a morning coffee, skip breakfast, skip lunch, and use that money to donate to the Skip1 organization. It's all done by teens and young adults that are trying to make the world a better place and we're actually going out doing something about it and not just taking money and that's it.

J-14: Eclipse is coming out soon -- are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Matt: Oh. I'm going to go with Team Jacob just because I know Taylor. I've known Taylor for a while and I don't know Robert personally. It's a personal thing.

J-14: How long have you known Taylor for?
Matt: When I first moved out to L.A. when I was like 14, I became really good friends with Taylor Dooley, who was Lava Girl in Sharkboy and Lava Girl, and Taylor and Taylor were like best friends, so I'd hang out with Taylor and Taylor like every weekend. Then like a year later, we're all in the same acting class for like a year and a half together and we've just known each other forever. He's a good kid and he deserves all this stuff and I'm glad it happened to him.
